A few words to conclude the academic year…
17 July
Theatrical life measures seasons, that is why the rule is to speak about the results in summertime. In «Drugie Tantsi» we also summarize the academic year in summer.
June of this year which was remarkable for its burning heat, from my point of view, marked the completion of a very successful creative season.
Twenty girls and boys went on stage on a premiere day of
the performance ‘Who is that Kukaryamba?’, as a result of the inspiration from the unsurpassed novel by Astrid Lindgren ‘Pippi Longstocking’. All performers, irrespective of their age, took their well-deserved place in the spectacle after having passed an interesting and quite difficult path of personal and professional growth. This was a two years long path from the initial format of a creative laboratory when children would choose roles, tried them on, improvised through many hours of lessons and rehearsals until going on stage on a performance premiere day.
Thank you to
the viewers who came to see our new work, our friends and colleagues who came
for the premiere from
We played the premiere which, probably, appeared to be slightly unexpected for our viewers. I’ll tell you more. In some respects the spectacle became a discovery for us, too. We went beyond the genre we’re used to working in (i.e. the framework of the dance theatre) and showed to the audience a music drama in which children not only dance, sing, improvise physically which became quite a normal practice for the ‘Drugie Tantsi’, but also work with a word.
This was actually the core of the experiment. Judging by your feedback after the spectacle, as well as the emotions in the auditorium, your letters and greetings I received after the premiere, the experiment can be viewed a success. It is very important for us to know that it was excitingly interesting for all of us to work in the new format. That is why I find this year not only successful, but also a landmark year in the DRUGIE TANTSI’ creative career.
Convincingly vigorous result (for the age of 5) was demonstrated this year by our youngsters, who showed their first half-hour spectacle on the training floor. Well… Full of substance and genuine present fill the future with the same qualities.
There’s no secret that after the premiere a spectacle starts living its own life. Its body will evolve in time and space, while we all will also transform with it.
Wishing all of us bright and unexpected transformations in the coming season – just like those our current season has been so full of.
Enjoy the summer. And see you in September…
